We started 2012 with a blast, charging forwards to make huge changes in the company to serve your adventure needs even more.
So what have we done? First of all we changed our name from “Savage Wilderness Safaris / White Water Adventures” to “Savage Wilderness,” we have done this because we are now so much more than just the only rafting company in Kenya, we are Kenyas Adventure Tourism Experts offering rafting trips on many rivers throughout Kenya, kayaking courses, climbing excursions and courses, mountain biking safaris, mountain expeditions, school and corporate developmental team building programs, the adventures just keep carrying on.
Over the past number of years, the company concentrated on building up the Savage Camp on the banks of the Tana River and at the present moment, the place is looking stunning as you can see in our latest video. For 2012 we have decided to go back to the essence of the company and re open all of the wonderful adventure safaris that we started with 22 years ago.
What’s New? With dreams to fly, we have built our new zip line, across the Tana River and so you are now able to swing from one tree platform to another. This is a simple activity for everyone to participate in from young kids to grown adults. If you are at the camp for just a rafting trip, you must give it a go.
We have now designed some fantastic 2 and 3 day programs were you are able to come and relax at the camp for a couple of nights and participate in a number of all inclusive activities like rafting, rock climbing, zip lining, mt biking, sundowners or community service at the local school.
“Changes with the Savage team”
In March the founder of Savage Wilderness, Mark Savage, retired from being the managing director and is now enjoying his retirement, working away, doing what he loves, guiding on most of our expedition style trips, getting back to how he started the company. “To be out in the wild enjoying the adventures”.
James Savage his son is now the new Managing Director with some great visions and goals to re start all those wonderful multi day trips that the company started with 22 years ago. With some new exciting projects up his sleeves, watch his place.
Alex Aitken, an old family friend and employee of the Savages has come on board as the New Projects and Operations Manager, Alex has 28 years of rafting his way around the globe and so unloading his enthusiasm and knowledge onto the rest of the Savage Wilderness Team. Welcome Aboard.
Kris Colliyer has now completed 10 years, working with the company and now spends most of his time at the Savage Camp running all of the school programs and kayaking course in which he leaves the kids with a totally new perspective to life.
Christine Nderitu or more commonly known as “Shortie” is now working as our Office Manager in the office and so she will be your first point of contact with her infectious smile. But you will still see her on the mountain and activities most weekends.
Julias is currently in London, running the London Marathon, so we hope he comes back with a nice big gold medal soon. He definitely deserves one considering that he runs 22 km to work every day.
The rest of the team are all up at the camp, working hard every day on making sure that you have a trip that leaves you with every lasting memory.
A few Achievements so far: just this year we have had 285 people climb up Mount Kenya with us in which 265 have reached the summit.
We have run a number of school programs in Lake Naivasha, Sagana and the Abedares, leaving children with a new perspective on life.
We have run a number of team building courses for some of the big companies in Kenya, like ICDC, Ramani and Oxfam.
We have finished the 14 new rooms on the other side of the Tana River, leaving them as stunning as ever, to complete your relaxation needs.
In the next few months, we have all sorts of adventures on offer and so it is important that if you want to travel with us or participate in an adventure, you should make your reservation as soon as possible to guarantee your space.
